Challenge
Improving patients lives with online applications
by I-nspire
I-nspire turns innovative Internet ideas into leading, successful and profitable companies that have a major positive impact on society.
The Challenge
Everyone has been to a hospital once, as a visitor or as a patient. And we all know that you do not want to stay in a hospital for too long. Most importantly because you’d rather be in good health, but also because you are away from your family, friends and all the comforts of your own home.
Therefore, wouldn’t it be great if we could find ways to improve the stay of patients in hospitals? Be able to communicate with your family and friends and see them whenever you want, and while admitted have fun and even learn new things?
Therefore, we want to challenge you to create ideas for Internet applications on mobile devices (like laptops, mobile phones etc.) that will help patients to be more comfortable while staying in the hospital.
Examples:
- Facebook/MSN for the hospital: patients can share experiences, support each other, laugh with each other
- Online courses, like CPR etc.
Also, you can think of more functional applications, like communication between hospital staff and patients. Show patients instruction movies etc.
So, be original, think out of the box and hopefully your idea will help many others!

Because I get a lot of church organisations if I look 'I-nspire' up on the internet. Is that where you're from?
I would like to know where my Ideas go to!
Thanks, Floor -

My name is Marta Talmor and I'm an Interior designer.
The reason I'm contacting you is that I have developed unique bedside furniture for
Patients - called PatientStation®.
I believe in this product solution and think that patients need this sort of bedside cabinet, it will not make their stay in hospitals enjoyable but it will certainly make their lives easier and friendlier.
I would like to share with you how did I reach to design this bedside cabinet:
During the last few years I visited my mother in-law in the hospital and I saw how she lived (as well as other young and older people), ate and function while in bed, it was very frustrated; the food tray is not comfortable to eat from, the cabinet is relatively heavy and not user friendly. During my visits, I started thinking of a better cabinet, I think patients should be treated better.
Introducing the new concept for an "unable to go" person; The Patient Station® bedside cabinet is the ultimate solution and absolutely new design & concept. Whether a patient is in a hospital, rest home or retirement home, our design gives a new look, incredible comfort and the technology one needs next to their bed.
A short demo on "Patient-Station®" is available in the following link:

I as well have a very detailed presentation that I am willing to share with you, please tell me where can I send it.
Thanks in advance

He was very enthusiastic and interested and he has now setup a meeting with his ICT director on July 14th. Hopefully we can do a pilot with some of the ideas.

floor wrote: 2010-07-03 17:51:06 Hi Patrick,
I juist wanted to point out that you should think of a permanent helpdesk people can call/chat with for your app. I remember asking the nurses helping me with my internet connection and Nobody knew anything about it, which was really frustrating. But it is not their job, so understandable..
This thaught came up when reading the idea about online learning (photoshop e.g.) which i really like because it makes you feel 'useful'. But there also, a helpdesk is important.
I'm still curious to your company presentation by the way! ;-)
